At Camp
Our guides on the last morning (left to right: Mike, Justin, Karen, Steve, Katie, Kyron, Matt, and Christian). They said: "Haven't you guys got anything better to do?" We said, "The real question is 'haven't you?'" (Looking closely at this photo, one wonders whether Mike is massaging Karen's foot or Justin's. Katie seems OK with it in either case.)
Our whole group on the last morning -- photographed by the guides.
"Who cooks dinner tonight?" The answer is determined by which two guides lose the nightly "pliers toss" into a bucket. This is serious business. The tossers here are Christian, Karen, Katie, and Steve, respectively. Karen looks like she really wants to win. But Steve wins top style points for intensity. No one else seems to care.
Many evening horseshoe players emerged over the course of the trip. The last photo is unusual in that it stops a horseshoe in mid-air.
Mancala was popular in the evenings, too ... as was hanging around with the guides under the only umbrella for miles around.
Lots of fishing, but no catching. Ryan (in the first two photos) and Donny (in the third) win style points above Granite Rapids.
Turnabout is fair play. Here, Shaun succumbs to "Girls Rule" ... even though it takes help from the boys to make it happen!
To the victors go the spoils. Katie helps her ally with clean-up after the battle. Jenny wonders whether all this was really necessary. Tom looks on with pure joy.
What better way to pass time than to have a mud fight in silty-brown, 48 degree water?
Meercats on the alert ... then on the attack!
Even the most energetic campers eventually poop out.
First two photos are one our campsites from high above. The third is of our guides preparing dinner on the second-to-last night. The fourth is a difficult point to hike beyond in National Canyon, but everyone made it up and down safely.
After the trip is over, it's great to have a hot shower in Las Vegas. The six-story-high water slide at "Wet 'N Wild" is fun, but seems like an anti-climax.
